Trump chief of staff Susie Wiles finally takes center stage in new interview

Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Susie Wiles, has never been one to seek out attention.

For the entirety of the president's second term thus far, she has been behind the scenes.

That just changed considerably after she did an interview with Pod Force One.

Nasty spat is over

The Trump campaign went after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis hard during the election, even to the point that Trump himself stated that California's Gavin Newsom was a better governor.

This was all rhetoric, and most of us realized this was just mudslinging, but the MAGA faithful bought into it and went on the attack against DeSantis, to the point of calling him a traitor for daring to run against Trump.

Wiles addressed the animosity between the two parties, stating, “I think he’s governing Florida -- which is my home state -- he’s a good governor, and whatever personal differences he had or whatever deficiencies he thought I had are long past my thinking about them.”

While I believe DeSantis has put the race behind him, deep down, I don’t think he will ever forgive Trump and his surrogates for some of these attacks.

Born for this

When Trump nominated Marco Rubio to serve as secretary of State, I was all-in, as I thought it was a great selection, and Wiles seems to agree.

On Rubio, she stated, “I don’t want to get involved in that. I think he’s a fantastic, brilliant guy."

Wiles went on, “Marco is great. There’s a lot of them that are great. We have a lot of good people in this party.”

I agree completely, and was glad to see Rubio survive the spat with Elon Musk, as I thought losing him was a real possibility during that time, and I valued Rubio far more than I did Musk.

Lifting Pat Summerall

It was not all politics with Wiles, as she described a rather difficult but necessary letter that was once written to her famous father, Pat Summerall, regarding his drinking.

She stated, “When my mom decided that he needed professional treatment, part of the prescription was for each of the children to write a letter, which he didn’t read until he got into, in his case, the Betty Ford Clinic.”

Wiles continued, “And so, he says, I don’t know, he says [the letter] was meaningful enough to really make him think.”

I really like Wiles in this role, and I love the fact that she stays behind the scenes and does not seek attention. At the same time, I love the fact she did this interview so people can get to know her a bit more. So far, I think she has struck the perfect balance.
