Jeffries refuses to endorse Mamdani after meeting

The question remains whether the Democrat Party will cave to Zohran Mamdani or resist his radical socialist agenda.

His camp declared war on House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), but the two parties held a meeting, reportedly to end the beef and get Jeffries in Mamdani’s camp.

The meeting was held last week, but it reportedly did not go as planned.

The Attack

The co-chair of the Democrat Socialists of America stated, “His leadership has left a vacuum that organizations like DSA are filling. I think that is more important right now.”

The “he” in that comment was Jeffries, who had refused to endorse Mamdani after he won the Democrat primary race in New York City.

Jeffries’ team responded, “Leader Hakeem Jeffries is focused on taking back the House from the MAGA extremists who just ripped health care away from millions of Americans.

“However, if Team Gentrification wants a primary fight, our response will be forceful and unrelenting. We will teach them and all of their incumbents a painful lesson on June 23, 2026.”

The Meeting

On Friday, the two men reportedly met, but Jeffries was still not overly excited about endorsing Mamdani.

After the meeting, his office stated, “The meeting between Leader Jeffries and Assemblyman Mamdani was constructive, candid and community-centered, with a particular focus on affordability.”

The statement continued, “Leader Jeffries and Assemblyman Mamdani discussed a variety of other important issues, including public safety, rising antisemitism, gentrification and the importance of taking back the House in 2026.”

Mamdani released a similar statement, so there was clearly no endorsement, but it does appear that the public beef will be quashed, at least for now.

Mild Collapse

Cuomo now appears to be the best bet to beat Mamdani, as his polling has taken a rather significant hit with all the information being revealed about Mamdani over the last two weeks.

While Mamdani held a significant lead over everyone, he is now tied with Cuomo at 29% if Adams is out of the race and Sliwa stays in the race, running on the GOP ticket.

If Cuomo drops out, Mandani keeps his commanding lead over Sliwa and Adam, holding 35% of the vote to 25% and 19% respectively.

If Sliwa drops out, Mamdani is leading Adams 43% to 36%, but he trails Cuomo 50% to 35%, so that would be the ideal matchup solely for the purpose of having Mamdani blocked from office. Trump would prefer for Adams to be the candidate, but I think the administration could be talked into supporting Cuomo if it meant blocking Mamdani from getting control of that city.
