Driscoll, former acting director, fired from FBI

I would imagine that MAGA is very happy today after news broke regarding the firing of Brian Driscoll, formerly the Acting Director of the FBI.

Driscoll was appointed by Trump as leadership in the FBI was undergoing a huge change, but he did not last long.

He refused to play nice with Trump, was relieved from his post, and has now reportedly been fired.

The Trump Appointment

After the election, Trump did not hide the fact that he was going to remove then-FBI Director Christopher Wray, who had initially been appointed by Trump.

Wray left, and Paul Abbate was convinced to take over until the Trump administration came in.

Abbate served for one day, then announced he was leaving, so Trump appointed Driscoll to serve as the acting director until Kash Patel was confirmed by the Senate.

The announcement for the appointment stated, "In March 2011, Mr. Driscoll was selected as an operator for FBI's HRT. Ultimately, he became an HRT team leader, responsible for the planning and execution of tactical solutions in furtherance of FBI global operations. He also collaborated with foreign law enforcement and military partners to conduct operations and training, strengthening FBI global partnerships."

It's Over

The love affair did not last long, as Driscoll immediately pushed back against the administration’s quest to have anyone who worked on the J6 cases removed from the agency.

Driscoll reportedly sent a memo to agents that he had their back, writing, "As we’ve said since the moment we agreed to take on these roles, we are going to follow the law, follow FBI policy, and do what’s in the best interest of the workforce and the American people -- always.”

He also wrote to his agents regarding a direct request to fire a handful of agents, stating, “Late this afternoon, I received a memo from the acting Deputy Attorney General notifying me that eight senior FBI executives are to be terminated by specific dates, unless these employees have retired beforehand. I have been personally in touch with each of these impacted employees."

All of this came up during Patel’s confirmation hearings, and when asked about it, he stated, “All FBI employees will be protected against political retribution.”

Relieved

Needless to say, Driscoll’s time in that position did not last long, as he was eventually relieved of duty.

He has been kicking around the agency, but reports surfaced this week that he had been terminated, told to be out of the building by Friday, as well as several other agents.

FBI sources said the removal was being considered by most as “retribution” for his actions regarding January 6, but Patel and the FBI have been mum on exactly why Driscoll and the other agents were removed.

My guess is that Driscoll went right from the FBI to an attorney’s office, and I fully expect him to file a wrongful termination suit against the agency and the administration. There is no way this is the last we hear of this unless he was offered a massive buyout package to keep quiet.
