There are some serious rumors that former Indiana mayor, failed presidential candidate, and former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is going to make another run at the White House.
Buttigieg appears to have read the room, slowly drifting away from some hardline Democrat stances.
So much so, he is even admitting that it is not fair for transgender individuals to play in women’s sports, albeit treading very carefully.
As we had all expected, in early polling, it was Kamala Harris who had the early lead for the 2028 election, but she is already slipping back to the pack.
In most polls, she is still leading, but her lead is all but gone.
In an early Emerson College Polling survey, Buttigieg was also posted as the leader, landing 16% support in a very crowded field, holding a 3% lead over Kamala Harris.
Gavin Newsom had also made a big jump in polling, soaring up to 12%, right on Kamala’s heels.
Buttigieg is holding the line in terms of attacking Trump, having stated, “Right now, you’ve got an administration that is burning down many of the institutions that we have in this country, which is wrong. It is also wrong to imagine that we should have just kept everything going along the way it was. If our politics, our economy and our culture were healthy, the rise of a figure like Donald Trump would have never happened in the first place.”
However, he also criticized the Democrat Party, stating, “Democrats have been slow to understand the changes in how people get their information.
“Slow to understand some of the cultural changes that have been happening and — maybe most problematic of all — too attached to a status quo that has been failing us for a long time.”
I thought that was a bit of a stretch, however, as Democrats were leading the path in regard to the use of social media and podcasts, but Trump clearly caught up in the last election. It just sounded more like a way for Buttigieg to try to present himself as a candidate of change.
The real hit came when Buttigieg, who is openly gay, went after the Democrats regarding the transgenders in sports issue, while also taking another silent hit at the GOP and Trump.
On the subject, he stated, "Around sports, … I think most reasonable people would recognize that there are serious fairness issues if you just treat this as not mattering when a trans athlete wants to compete in women’s sports.”
Then came the shot, stating, "And that’s why I think these decisions should be in the hands of sports leagues and school boards and not politicians … in Washington trying to use this as a political pawn.”
Well, Pete, there is federal money involved, so that is why this is something the federal government is taking on. Not to mention, it is about far more than fairness, as there is a real safety issue here as well. We need one standard here, not blue and red rules.
