New York City Mayor Eric Adams has yet another scandal breaking on his watch.
This time, Adams is fighting a $5 million sexual assault lawsuit.
Adams, however, is claiming that all his documentation was lost in Hurricane Sandy.
Adams has had nothing but scandals from virtually his first day in office.
He was mired by corruption charges almost immediately after taking office, and my opinion was that this was an open-and-shut case.
I did not hide my disappointment in the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) for dropping the charges.
This was a clear quid pro quo in my eyes: drop the charges in exchange for help with the immigration issue in New York City.
This became more evident when the DOJ asked to have the charges dropped without prejudice, which would have allowed the DOJ to refile charges if Adams went back on his word.
The judge saw through this, and while allowing the dropping of the charges, the judge did so with prejudice, removing the leverage of the administration.
Now Adams is facing a sexual assault lawsuit, but he is claiming his files were all lost in Hurricane Sandy.
His attorney stated, “All physical personnel records and employment folders maintained for Defendant Adams were destroyed when the Kingsland Avenue warehouse suffered extensive damage from flooding during Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.”
Attorney for the plaintiff, Siobhan Klassen, stated, “The timing and substance of this disclosure are highly suspect, surfacing only now after more than a year of requests for these records and nearly two years into litigation.”
This is a disaster for Adams, who is running as an independent in the race. He is already running behind Mamdani and Cuomo, and I would imagine this is only going to hurt him more.
Sadly, this is the horse the Trump administration is standing behind due to the fact that the party did not take this election seriously.
While I hate to say it, if we want to keep Mamdani from taking over that city, the GOP is probably going to have to get behind another corrupt Democrat, Andrew Cuomo, if it wants to block Mamdani.
This is going to be a very hard lesson learned for the GOP and the citizens of New York City.
