I want to be clear from the outset that this is not a hit piece to insinuate that Senator Warren (D-MA) has a medical condition or needs to retire from office over this fall.
The fall was clearly an accident.
No… this is a piece about how ridiculously different the media treats the left and right in this country.
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), an octogenarian, is an easy target. The fact he is not well-liked only makes it easier to attack him.
McConnell has had some scares and more than a few falls, but he also happens to be a polio survivor who sometimes struggles with balance as a result of the disease.
When McConnell fell, it made national headlines, and both sides of the aisle were calling for him to step down, but the left was vicious about it.
McConnell’s office made it clear this was just a lingering effect of the polio, and Senator McConnell was just fine.
Trump has had two incidents that I can recall during his two administrations, and the media blew up over both of them.
During Trump’s first term, he was very cautious walking down a ramp because it had rained. The media went ballistic, immediately stating that it was raising red flags about Trump’s health. To that point, a New York Times piece on this was headlined, “Trump’s Halting Walk Down Ramp Raises New Health Questions.”
In June, Trump slipped walking up the steps of Air Force One, and the media ate it up, regurgitating every hit Trump made against Biden when he fell.
I found this all very amusing after Biden slipped repeatedly, even tilting over on his bike, but the media largely ignored or spun the stories to protect Biden. If Trump starts falling on a regular basis like Joe, then it’s a story, but not until then.
During a recent Senate vote, Warren was on the floor, then decided to rest on a desk, but it wound up being one that was not anchored, and she tumbled backward. This was clearly not a health issue, and she started to bounce back up right away.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was the first on the scene to lend a hand, with Warren patting his hand to assure him that she was just fine.
Warren’s fall, however, was barely reported in the media, which should have been how the other falls should have been treated, as they were exceptions, not the norm, as we saw with Joe Biden.
The few outlets that did report on the fall relished in how some of the online trolls called for Warren’s retirement, which is just silly based on the video I saw. I just wish the media would stop being so sensationalistic because today, our mainstream media is out TMZing TMZ!
