During an interview in 2024, Zohran Mamdani was asked about the international courts issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes.
The United States, by and large, has dismissed the warrant, but Mamdani stated that New York City respects international law, and suggested that he would order Netanyahu arrested if he came to the city.
Both President Donald Trump and Netanyahu himself have now responded to the possibility of such an arrest.
This was a bold statement by Mamdani, but it fits right along the narrative that is being pushed by many Democrats in the party right now.
On the possible arrest of Netanyahu, Mamdani stated, “As mayor, New York City would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu."
He went on, “This is a city that our values are in line with international law. It’s times that are actions are also.”
The United States is not a signatory to the ICC, so that warrant means nothing here. Point being, Mamdani would be crossing a major line by taking such action.
Trump has already warned Mamdani that he had better behave if elected mayor, and the response from both the president and Netanyahu was more or less a dare.
Netanyahu stated, "I'm going to come there with the President Trump and we'll see,” adding that he was “not concerned” with Mamdani’s threats.
Trump added, "We don’t know who the mayor is going to be yet, but this is a communist. He's not a socialist. He's a communist, and he's said some really bad things about Jewish people."
I can tell you this... the NYPD would have to fight through Secret Service to get to Netanyahu, and I just don’t see the officers betraying Trump to pacify Mamdani. It would be a horrific scene, regardless.
On Monday, Trump and Netanyahu met to discuss Israel’s wars, as well as what the future will hold for these two allies.
Trump has always had a great relationship with Netanyahu, and that bond has only grown stronger, with the president stating, "We had tremendous success together. And I think it will only go on to be even greater success in the future."
Netanyahu also revealed his letter to the Nobel Peace Prize committee, which Trump is obsessed with winning. The Israeli PM stated, "It’s well-deserved. You're forging peace as we speak, in one country and one region after the other."
For the work Trump has done here, he should get the award, but we all know liberals would have a complete and utter meltdown if that ever happened. With the peace deals Trump has brokered during his first five months in office, I just don’t know how they can overlook him again.
