CNN called out by White House for ‘fake news’ report

For years, I have been criticizing the mainstream media for being more worried about being first than being right.

Sadly, at a time when X has become the source for breaking stories, we far too often see the first story published later debunked, and it appears to have happened again.

After CNN published a report that Trump only notified Republicans in Congress of the strike, the White House fired back over what it is calling a “fake news” report.

The strike

Late Saturday night, Donald Trump pulled off some magnificent sleight of hand that had many working parts, none of which were ever leaked, a truly amazing accomplishment today.

A group of B-2 bombers was sent to Guam while another squadron of bombers started their 37-hour flight to strike nuclear targets in Iran.

The squadron dropped more than a dozen bombs on Iran’s nuclear sites, and according to President Trump, they obliterated the facilities, setting Iran’s nuclear program back what will likely be decades.

Trump did not seek congressional approval for the strike, but from what I can tell about the strike, he did not need to, even though Democrats will say this was unconstitutional and Trump should be impeached for it.

The report

In addition to not seeking congressional approval, CNN claimed that the Trump administration never notified congressional Democrat leadership of the strike, choosing only to reach out to Republican leadership about the strike.

CNN reported, “The top two Republicans in Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, were both notified of the US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities ahead of time, according to multiple GOP sources.

“People familiar with the matter initially told CNN that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries received notifications shortly before the public announcement — and after the attack itself.”

The White House was furious over the report, immediately calling out CNN for yet another report with unnamed sources offering up the key details of the report.

Got it wrong

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt went nuclear on X over the CNN report, posting, "This is Fake News. The White House made bipartisan courtesy calls to Congressional Leadership and spoke to @SenSchumer before the strike. @RepJeffries could not be reached until after, but he was briefed. @CNN please retract.”

Both Schumer and Jeffries issued statements on the strike, both condemning the attacks rather than supporting Trump.

Schumer took it a step further, stating, "No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy.”

This was a precision military strike, just like the hundreds of missions Obama greenlit when he was in office. Trump did not declare war on Iran, period. The Democrat Party is becoming unhinged when it needs to be standing united behind our president. But again, this is all part of their plan to promote chaos and unrest in the country because that is what they need to wrestle power away from the GOP.
